Wish/Cutter
Wish/Cutter is an RPG Maker 2003 game made for the Cookie Cutter RM2k3 Jam. It's my attempt to tell a short story using mostly RM2k3 default assets and a set of prebuilt maps.

The writing in this game is top-notch! You did a great job tying together all the different themes, and I'm always a sucker for a time loop (or time-loop adjacent) story. The story is well-paced, particularly the mysteries surrounding what is going on and the way everything gradually gets revealed. And I like the messaging about making choices as well. Everything just comes together to make this an awesome entry! :)
this is so good. just a perfect use of rpg language to tell a concise and potent little story. i enjoy how much ambiguity you leave in a bunch of parts of the story too. really great work!
Everything really just works together in this one mechanically/narratively. Even messing up on a couple of later cycles by forgetting to equip or collect one item or another at what might've been the narrative climax only enhanced the experience for me by making me have to keep pushing through to earn it for real. I like that both potential outcomes are presented as valid ones since there's rarely cut-and-dry answers with situations like this. Just a really tight and impactful banger.
This took me a few tries cuz I kept getting stuck, but I enjoyed it once I realized there are plot flags. Nice little story and a cool way to tell it.

This was a very cool original spin on the jam. I loved the concept very much although, won't lie, I did end up banging my head against a wall several times before I reached the end. The coloured text was also a really cool touch that I felt a little envious of after the fact.
Ah, I intended it to be a pretty smooth path forward, shame that didn't work out. If I make any changes to this I might give Scorpi some more dialogue to give more explicit directions on what to do.

There are technically two endings, yes, and the dialogue is different, but not much else changes.
About the pronouns, I just added them manually as the first line of each text box, with some color codes! And then just copy/pasted for each line of dialogue. It would absolutely NOT have been sustainable in a longer story, but I don't know a better way, eheh.

It's made in RPG Maker 2003, cause it was made for a game jam that stipulates it! (Still open for about a week, at the time of writing)
As far as I know, EasyRPG has both an editor and a player, and the editor isn't really ready for use yet, but the player is, and since it has a web version, you can use it to play RM2k3 games in the browser. Lots of people have been doing that for the jam.

really beautiful storytelling on every level: dialogue writing, pacing, structure, thematic cohesion, and use of rpg mechanics to get the point across. i love to play a game whose story feels like it would suffer if it had been told in any other medium, that's stronger for the fact of being an rpg, and this is a wonderfully concise and robust example. you're a real pro!

hey emi! I'm so happy to try my first thing by you. immediately I was delighted at your use of color codes, pronouns, and a particular rpg maker track that is very close to my heart. it was fun catching onto the theme around all the characters' names, and "all smiles, right?" hit me quite deeply in its delivery. the narrative structure was beautiful, clean and everything landed just right, leaving me teary at the end. the story you're telling here resonates a lot with some things I believe in, especially at this particular juncture of my life, and it helped me to see a story like this reflected outside of me. your command of storytelling is delightful, and your grasp on rpg maker is amazing for a first shot.
